The Belle Dress

After I made the Rapunzel dress, I definitely got dress-up fever. My mom made her a Cinderella dress, so next the princess wanted a Belle dress. My thoughts ran wild with ideas. I planned out an elaborate vintage-inspired dress with lace tiers and I quickly started getting overwhelmed before even starting.I am still a novice sewer, and I was realizing I had no clue how to do what my head wanted to do. I got a few different fabrics that I thought might work out and then I thought and thought and thought but it just wasn't happening. I couldn't make up my mind and convinced myself some details would be too hard and just kept putting it off. Finally a week before B's birthday I made the goal to finish a Belle dress for a present. I loved having the peasant top for the bodice for the Rapunzel dress. Super easy, knew I could sew it, and it meant no zippers or buttons and she could put it on by herself. On Sunday night I was just going to see if I had enough of one fabric for the peasant top and cut it out. Well then I knew it did not take long to sew that part so I just did that real quick. Then I wanted to see if there was enough of the same fabric to do the skirt. There was, so I cut it out. I had googled Belle dresses to get some inspiration and ideas and came across THIS tutorial on how to gather with elastic. Before I went to bed I decided to try one gather and see how it worked out. It was easy and fast so why not do the rest?! After that the only thing left was to attach the top to the bottom. Done. Then I added sparkly gold ric rac at the waist for a lil' somethin' somethin' and I was done! And I once again loved the simplicity. Took me about 2 1/2 hours of taking my time and not getting frustrated and we had a Belle dress. Maybe someday I'll feel up to making something super complicated and detailed but for now this is perfect.

I also made her a magic mirror to complete the outfit. $2.99 for a wood mirror and 2 bucks for some fake jewels that I hot glued on. So fun!

And this doesn't have anything to do with Belle, but of course B needed a birthday crown, and one that could be used frequently after. I followed THIS tutorial, but made my own simple design. I added lace on the lower half and used a pearl and silver button as the crowning jewel. She loves it! And hardly ever takes it off.

She loves taking pictures.
