Progress

My Mother-in-law came to visit us for a few days last week and our goal was to get some projects done.

Let me just say right now that I am completely spoiled in the parent department. I was born into a talented family and definitely married into one also. When it comes to building/sewing/painting/quilting/organizing/cooking/making anything you can dream up, there is someone close at hand that can make it happen.

The big project we tackled was a buffet hutch that Jill had given to me a few months ago. It was brown when I got it and I wanted to paint it a fun color but it took me forever to decide which color to go with. I finally decided on a light blue and wanted to distress and glaze it to make it look vintage-y. I'm glad I did my time in cabinet shops and learned how to make over furniture! It has come in handy. I had painted the two doors and drawers a few weeks ago but hadn't pumped myself up to do the body yet. Enter MIL. She busted it out in no time. Then I had the honor of distressing and glazing. I thought I had taken a before picture, but this is the only pic I could find that shows the hutch.

AFTER

I am so in love. I got the lamp at Goodwill for $6 I think and the mirror was a swap I made with a friend for a different mirror I had. I love the circle mirror. It was white when I got it and Jill spray painted it a darker blue we picked out. I need a new lampshade but then this little nook will be complete. That thing has so much storage too it's great. Don't you love our baseboard heaters?

Jill also painted B's little nightstand a cream color. I stole it from my parents house since it was tucked away in a store room. I think both my brother and I used it at one point. There was scribbling all over it from our younger days and I was a little hesitant to paint over it since I'm a little sentimental about stuff like that but decided there was really no reason not to. I got the mirror at Real Deals in Walla Walla for super cheap and the lamp on clearance at K-mart. Soon I'll be able to post a picture of the fabulous quilt my mom is making B.

I've been wanting to do a house tour for awhile but I've had so many little things half finished I haven't felt like showing anything off yet. This was a good start! I hope to be having more posts like this in the near future.

I think I need to defend myself before Shirlene writes that the quilt will never be finished (I mean for goodness sake, Brooklyn is only 2. It's not like it was her birth quilt or something.....was it?). Anyway, it would have been done way before now but someone nameless (Carly) keeps changing the sizes and is so so picky on what a cool border should look like. The hutch looks wonderful and I think we should confine all our comments to that.
